Photos: Beach Resorts
There's no guarantee that you'll make a living taking pictures of beaches, but you'll have a great time.
Do you ever have someone bore you with their "great" beach pictures? You are not alone!
Good versus Great
Let's face it. With a decent camera it's pretty hard to mess up a beach picture these days. The software that comes with most camera apps allows for manipulation that even a novice can apply. However, from a professional photographer's point of view I can tell you that there is a major difference between fair, good and great. Unfortunately most images are taken with a phone and those posted to places such as Facebook or Instagram show a loss of quality both in color, focus or in the challenging situations of dark lighting that results in excessive graininess.
So we know that many photos people think or believe to be great are really not. Oftentimes the concept is relative to the individual who may previously have experienced challenges in taking pictures and now sees self-improvement. It is a learning process in photography that we all go through as we grow.
Just because someone congratulates you on a picture, it doesn't mean your photos are award winning, right?
While your pictures may resonate with another individual or lots of people, if you want to take the product for a test run, see if anyone offers to buy a copy. That's a fairly good barometer of marketability and value. Your beach photos will always mean the world to you. They will help jog memories of time and place, and perhaps even relationships. Let them remain special in your mind, but don't force others to look at more than a picture or two at a time and watch their response. Looking away, yawning and other cues will tell you that your photos may not be "great".
