Beach photography can assist in promoting many causes such as the health of the ocean and sealife.
Dogs on Beaches and Nudism -- Two "no - no's" in most California beach destinations, are subjects of contention for some.
Beach Activism and Causes
Who should have access to California's beaches? Should everyone be allowed to visit them all the time? There are so many issues that people take on when they believe in a cause. A few we have seen include:
- Private gates on millionaire mansions block public access to beaches in places such as Malibu.
- Plastic bags have been regulated with argument that they cause beach and ocean pollution.
- Nudity has been banned on most beaches in California.
- Dogs have been banned on many California State Beaches as a policy issue.
- People routinely get sick after dips in the Pacific. Healthebay.org advises that some water may be unhealthy.
- Alcoholic beverages are banned on most beaches unless you obtain permits from authorities in charge.
- Photography may be prohibited on some beaches if you don't have a permit. Likewise, drones are subject to local policies.
- Vehicles, horses and objects such as Frisbees may be prohibited, depending on locations.
- Beach curfews require people leave and stay off beaches at night.
- Tent camping and camping tents are prohibited at many beaches.
- Beach bonfires are prohibited at many beaches.
- Beaches may close seasonally to protect endangered species such as Snow Plover birds.
- Fishing may require a license or be prohibited as some California beaches.

With the countless issues relating to beaches and the Pacific Ocean it's easy to see why so many people take on causes. Photography has become instrumental in promoting points of view. Pictures showing pollution, signage stating rules and regulations and photos documenting issues all serve a purpose.
