People: Newport Beach Surfer
Some of the most fun California beach photos are pictures of surfers. Surfboards offer interesting shapes, colors and accents or interaction with individuals who carry, ride and wax them.
Pictured north of the Newport Pier in Newport Beach (on the region called the Peninsula) is a surfer jammin' it with his waxed board and and wetsuit. Anxious to get into the water he's running for the waves that you can see coming int fairly close to shore.
Pier Positions
Photographing surfers doesn't alway require showing them in the water. Often you'll miss the image of a great looking surfboard, reflecting an individual's personality. This sort of portrait ir easy to take and doesn't require any special lens. Action such as walking or running is always great, though you can go for a more posed look, maybe with a little flash fill on the surfer and board.
Using natural light
- The surfer in Newport Beach shown was simply a point and shoot picture. It did not make use of anything other than composition. Ideally, it may have been better to capture the surfer closer to the left edge of the photo. But there was more beach and not much pier so the photo worked out better to keep the scene simple by catching the surfer as shown.
Practice
