Boys Build Sandcastles at Sunset
One of the best times to capture portraiture at California beaches is at sunset. We are probably some of the luckiest people in the U.S. because our sun sets to the west, making it quite easy to take pictures of people with the sunset behind them over the ocean. Ahhhh!
Not All Portraits Require Smiling for the Camera
For those of you who think the only way to take a decent (memorable) picture of loved ones is to have them look at the camera and smile, you need to start thinking outside the box. Some of the best beach pictures are those that engage the subjects with activities -- such as boys building sandcastles. Go ahead, give it a try!
Why try something new?
The posed photograph has a long history dating back to the very first cameras. They required the subjects to hold still and not move for a minute or two. Posing for photos began as a necessity. However, you don't have to do that anymore. More than 150 years have passed since those days but if you prefer a posed, smile-at-the-camera photo, it's OK. Just try to mix it up a little. When the kids move away and you are left with photos, you will really appreciate seeing the pictures of them playing in the sand at the beach. Sweet memories.
