Destinations: Balboa Ferry
If your destination is Newport Beach's Balboa Island, you can drive and park on the island after searching for a spot. However, a more fun way to get around is by riding your bicycle on the Newport Peninsula beach path, then walking your bicycle onto the Balboa Island Ferry (shown in the photo) for a ride across the bay and onto Balboa Island.
Bring loose change for the fee to ride the ferry. For one person with bicycle take $3-5. Prices may change so you want to have a little extra!
Destination Balboa
The trip to Balboa Island is like a step back in time. We call it Island Time. Residents tend to have an easy going attitude when living on the fun loving Island. Although it seems a little sleepy they actually get over a million visitors each year.
Picture Taking
- If you're riding a bicycle some have taken to documenting their trip with video cameras. However, stills remain higher quality (for now) and we recommend you have a still camera to capture the nuances of this quirky beach destination.
Wander
One of the best parts of Balboa Island is the character of old house "charmers" built in the early 1900s. Mixed between castles are cottages. You will only see them if you visit the streets of the approx. 1 mile long island.
